Well at least Christina Ricci isn’t in De Nile about any of this.
The “Yellowjackets” star told the peculiar story of her daughter’s name Cleopatra on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”” Tuesday.
The 41-year-old actor and his husband, celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist, Mark Hampton, welcomed their first child together in December, and it looks like Hampton was really, really excited about it all.
So much so that a conversation the couple had just before Ricci had surgery to deliver her baby by Cesarean may not have been communicated enough.
“Right before they got me ready [for the C-section, the hospital staff was] talk about how we should complete the birth certificate documents, ”Ricci told DeGeneres.
The star of “The Ice Storm” – who has a 7 year old son, Freddie, with her ex-husband James Heerdegen – explained that she and Hampton had chosen Cleo’s name before he arrived at the hospital. But Hampton apparently needed a little more clarification at the last second.
“My husband said to me, ‘Well, we’re going to give it a full name, aren’t we? And then the nickname is Cleo? ‘ ”Said Ricci. Considering Ricci was about to undergo surgery, the actor probably had more pressing issues on his mind.
“I was like, ‘Cleopatra? And he said, ‘Yeah, the full name is Cleopatra,’ ”Ricci continued. “And I was like, ‘OK, great. We will talk about this later.
Well, Hampton was eager to share the news on social media and post his new bundle of joy before he and his wife could have a less distracted chat about the baby’s name.
“My heart exploded,” Hampton wrote on Instagram on Dec. 8. “@riccigrams and baby Cleo are doing wonderfully, we are all resting after such a hectic morning … welcome to the world baby Cleopatra Ricci Hampton.”
“He was so excited he put it on Instagram and the media picked up his full name as Cleopatra Ricci Hampton,” Ricci told DeGeneres. “And so I was like, ‘I guess we called her Cleopatra. “”
While Ricci seems surprisingly cold about her baby being named something without her full consent, it’s hard not to imagine how her iconic Wednesday Addams character from “The Addams Family” would have handled that name hiccup.
