Hazleton, PA – Pennsylvania’s seventh Giving Tuesday – held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – will begin at 6:55 p.m. EST – or 18:55 p.m. Army time, in reference to Pennsylvania’s founding year – on Monday, November 29 and runs until midnight on Tuesday, November 30. Supporters of Penn State Hazleton are invited to present a gift in honor of the day that celebrates the power of giving back. Alumni, parents, friends, fans, faculty, staff and students are invited to help make GivingTuesday a success.
Once again, Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) who give a gift of $5 or more to the campaign will receive a 1:1 match from the university, up to $100. New for 2021, alumni who choose to support the GivingTuesday campaign as their first gift to the university will receive $25 added to their contribution thanks to a generous gift from the Peter Weiler Family Endowment in Advancement and Philanthropy.
Contributions to Penn State Hazleton during GivingTuesday will support the General Scholarship Fund, which supports students in their pursuit of a Penn State degree. As federal and international support for higher education dwindles, students and their families face a growing financial burden and debt. With the spread of the COVID pandemic in the world, more and more students are facing financial difficulties while trying to meet basic needs as well as college expenses.
Visit GivingTuesday at Penn State Hazleton to learn more about the General Scholarship Fund and to hear from students who have benefited from scholarships.
On November 29-30, givetuesday.psu.edu will provide live updates on the progress of fundraising across the university. Individuals can demonstrate the ‘we’ spirit by posting on social media with the hashtag #TogetherWeAre and following @RaisePennState on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for the most prominent events.
Gifts presented at GivingTuesday 2021 will advance “Greater Pennsylvania State of Excellence in the Twenty-first Century,” a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s standing as a leading public university in a world of rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni and friends, Greater Pennsylvania strives to meet the three basic requirements of a twenty-first century public university: keep the doors of higher education open to hard-working students regardless of financial well-being; Creating transformative experiences that transcend the classroom; and influence the world by serving societies and promoting discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
