The family of former Neighbors actor Miranda Fryer are in shock after her death at 34.
Fryer was best known for her role as Sky Mangel, the on-screen daughter of couple Joe Mangel and Kerry Bishop, in the long series from 1989 to 1991 when she was just 18 months old.
Her husband, family and friends are in shock at the sudden and unexpected death of their “really kind” loved one, who died in his sleep last Thursday in his Melbourne home.
“She was the most wonderful girl,” her mother, Traci Hunter told the Herald Sun.
“She had so much love and passion for life. She was a really kind and loving person, almost too good to be true – she was obviously too good to be true because she was taken from us so early.
“She just fell asleep and didn’t wake up. It is a terrible shock to all of us.
The cause of death was not disclosed, but in a statement the family said Fryer – who married her fiance Arthur Pothitis in 2020 – had “health issues with his heart.”
“True soul mates, Miranda and Arthur were planning on starting their family, when one day last week she fell asleep and never woke up. We don’t know why, ”his family said in a statement.
“She had had health problems with her heart. Maybe her beautiful personality was just too good for our world. We, who all loved her so much, will cherish the memories she left with us and mourn our loss forever.
“A beautiful child, a breathtaking teenager, beautiful inside and out… a woman, with so much love and happiness given and received. So many friends, so much more to offer this world, gone.
Fryer was the first child actress to land a job at Neighbors, but she didn’t choose a career.
Instead, she obtained a nursing degree from Monash University and was due to start working in the neuroscience department at Monash Hospital on February 7.
Neighbors TV Casting Director Jan Russ said: “I feel very sad to lose one of my actors and especially one so young as Miranda who spent her very young years on the show.”
“I love them like mine and feel the loss when they pass.”
