MONROE, Louisiana (KNOE) – 2020 was a difficult year for many, but it ended on a high note for a West Monroe senior. Daylan Davis learned on December 17, 2020 that she was accepted to Harvard University.
“I feel extremely blessed. You know, even when I was opening my letter, my mom told me, you know, it’s what God wants for you, ”Davis said. “If this is what he sees for you, then that is what it will be.”
Davis is a senior at West Monroe High School. She says she has had her eyes on the prestigious university for a while, but never thought she would get in.
In fact, Harvard University issued a statement saying they admitted a record low number of applicants in the class of 2025. University officials called this the most competitive early admission cycle in Harvard history.
“It was always kind of a dream like, oh man, it would be great to go to Harvard University. And then see how many great people have gone there. How many people have left and changed the world, like leaving their university, ”Davis said. “And so, I thought I would try it myself.”
His plans are to major in political science, graduate from Harvard, and hopefully go to Harvard Law School.
“Just being able to go and do these things and be an example to other girls who want to achieve something like this and let them know that you know it, no matter who you are, or what you’ve been through where you come from, you can really achieve anything you want. propose, ”Davis said.
But for now, she’s proud of how far she’s come and excited to make West Monroe proud.
